XaraLX sucks

I need a vector graphic editor for Linux. First of all, I tried XaraLX. It is production of a famous company that work in this field for years. Recently, they put its Linux version as a open source software. Concerning the history of this company, the software is supposed to be good.

After one day struggle with this software, I gave it up. It just sucks. The user interface is not friendly. Ok, let's say, it is not the point, after reading the manual and used of it, it should be Ok. Anyway, the manipulation is not intuitional. The software crashes whenever I want to print my work! If there is no output, what's the meaning of my one day's work? I tried to do it other way around, export as PDF. The exported PDF is not vector graphic at all! To export as any other format I have tried, did not work well. It also crashes all the time! How sucks.

Today, I try to play another well known vector graphic software in Linux world, Inkscape. Even I haven't play it much yet, it gives me good feeling. It has good tutorials which arranged as a adventure and attracting you to read and have a try. (BTW, I tried to open help in XaraLX. It always opens a website and there is no information in which.) I'd like to learn how to use Inkscape when I have time, at least, I need to be good at one vector graphic editor.

Inkscape also supports SVG, an XML standard for describing a drawing using vector graphics. It would be editor independent! So great!

Say to Xara's company, it is a great step to put your proud production into open source world. However, if you want to do it, mean it. Especially, somehow, it is also a important step to save yourself in market. Do not try to fool Linux users, since normally they are quite smart. And, bye-bye from me.

Inkscape is quite a fun program. I am not an expert by any means, but I've done a few screencasts on YouTube which might give you some ideas about how it works too. There are actually quite a few good inkscape screencasts up on YouTube done by others as well. Good luck.

I watch some of your videos. They are impressive! I learned much. Thanks a lot.

BTW, I also browsed your blog. I do not know whether you are an expert at Inkscape, but you must be an expert at photograph. I enjoy it much also.
